Nitty Gritty:

Currently, all After School Adventures (ASA) are leaving from St. Edwards Catholic Church by the parish. If parents would like to meet at the adventure location for C-19 safety purposes, please contact Coach B.

If a group of riders would like to set up a Day Ride or a group from a school would like to organize weekly rides, please email Coach Burgess at aburgess@ascentoutdoor.coom.

Cost

$25 per ASA.  This includes transportation, coaching, general repair(s), snacks and sustained entertainment & thrills for up to 3 hours.  Ride times are from 3:15 - 6:00. Upon signing up, parents will be emailed additional details including waivers - etc.

$75-125 for Day Trips: This includes transportation, coaching, general repair(s), snacks and sustained entertainment & thrills for up to 9 hours.  Ride times TBD. Upon signing up, parents will be emailed additional details.

How Ascent Works:

Parents & Riders!  Ascent is riding into 2021 safely!  To begin, Ascent creates ride days based on "what riders want out their ride" (trail difficulty/experience/ability).  This will improve ride safety by keeping groups together and I can also focus on a specific area for coaching.

For now, Please follow these steps when considering registration:

Evaluate what rides you can participate in based on your abilities. ALL RIDES are open for 5th-9th Grade. Typically, riders sign up with their buds, pooling age groups together. Coach B. looks over rider availability, ability, weather and ride preference when creating week.

For now, new ride days will follow an IMBA look based on trail difficulty, rider ability and purpose of ride.  Here are some examples:

Black Diamond - Very Difficult Trail System (RVA ex. Moonshine@Poco/North Bank@JRP/Bryce)

Blue Square - More Difficult Trail System (Belle Lap@Poco/Deep Run Pump/Powhite@JRP/Forest Hill@JRP)

Green Circle - Intro/Easy (Poney Pasture@JRP/Belle Isle@JRP/Poco Fire Roads)

Pace Mindset - I am always encouraged with how riders move faster when they observe others and in effect, increase their own speed over time.  This is the power of group rides.  However there is a gap that can occur and create an unsafe distance between groups because of ability.  When looking at the large difference of gross motor skills between a 5th and 8th, 9th, or 10th grader - it's easy to see why honesty is important. A riders honest perception of skills is not hurtful, just truthful and more importantly provides safer rides.

Please sign up for rides that are inside of your sons/daughters abilities. If you have any questions, please email aburgess@ascentoutdoor.com

Pace of the ride will be evaluated based on the following descriptions:

5. Full Throttle - Fast/Few Stops with consistent Aggressive/Attack/Charge

4. Burst Throttle - Fast/More Stops and Bursts of Aggressive/Attack/Charge

3. Medium Throttle - Medium Consistent Pace and Push

2. Medium Burst - Medium Pace with more Stops for Learning on Skill Challenges.

1. Learning Throttle - Medium Pace with learning in mind.  Focused on fundementals of gears and riding while out of your saddle.

Weekly rides are first come, first serve, with a waiting list of 3.  *Only parents can sign up using their personal emails*  Weekly rides will be available for sign up Sundays @ 3pm  Mark your calendar if this day flils up quickly.  Parents are always welcome to meet at the ride locations and welcome to ride along!

"Sign ups" should be removed if parents need to cancel.  Please cancel 24-48 hours in advance to help other possible riders participate.  Cancelation(s) on the day of the ride will result in a late cancelation fee of $10.  If you are at the top of the waiting list, have gear ready on the ride day in the event you are contacted from a cancelation.

Please make sure all participants sign a waiver for each seasonal activity.  Waivers are attached to this form (for review or completion) but...NEW THIS YEAR - I will send the Ascent Waiver/Release that can be electronically signed to the email that is provided when you sign up!  (insert high five & cheers)

Please email aburgess@ascentoutdoor.com with any questions.

Payment: Cash, Check (paid to Ascent Outdoor) or Venmo (@Adam-Burgess-8)

Ascent Mtn Biking

The longest running outdoor activity for Ascent - Mountain Biking is a versatile thrill seeking blast on two wheels. Students have ventured all around RVA from Pocahontas in Chesterfield County to the BMX track on the East End of Richmond. Riders show incredible growth when they are able to ride with their friends and receive real time coaching. Riders not only learn hard skills on the bike, they learn technical skills for repairing bikes and safe practices to lower the risk of injury. That’s why we have a no helmet, no ride rule.
